Organic Onions - Market Pic by D. Hennessey
If you live or you are on holidays in the South of France and you like to eat organic food there are a number of options.
Organic Foods can be bought relatively less expensively in large chain food stores who have embraced the organic revolution in France.
Many chain stores like Carrefour, Casino, Intermarche, Leader Price, Super U, and E. Leclerc offer organic food often less expensively that speciality stores due to economies of scale.
From personal experience, I have found Leader Price and Super U to be the least expensive then at a close third is Casino.
Of course, this can always change.
By the way if you read French you may notice a website being promoted called http://www.lebiomoinscher.com/bio . This website is a site for E. Leclerc with the hope of convining you their organic food is the cheapest but you can see they left out Leader Price, Super U and Casino in their comparison.
How do you Identify Organic Food in France?
Organic Agriculture is called Agriculture Biologic in French or AB for short. So when you are looking for Organic Food in France you look for the AB logo plus you will typically find the work Biologic on the label too.
In the future due to new European Union labeling laws you will see the NEW EU logo written about here.
All the best,
David
